Rustic office design has the unique ability to turn a cold, stodgy office into a warm, welcoming workspace by use of the simplest of elements. With neutral colors, a worn-in look and a little help from Mother Nature, you can take your office from corporate to comfortable in no time.

Incorporate Natural Elements

From plants to genuine leather chairs to jute rugs, rustic design is all about bringing the outdoors in. Incorporate what Mother Nature has to offer in a big way by adding a wood veneer executive desk as the centerpiece of the room, or do it on a smaller scale by adding antlers and potted plants around the space. No matter how you choose to achieve the rustic look, natural elements are absolutely essential.

Wear it Out

Wood is a staple of rustic design, but not just any wood will do. Rustic furniture and décor is weathered and worn, giving off the look of lumber pulled straight from the forest. In an effort to replicate the just-carved look, wood is often distressed, meaning it’s carved and marked up to achieve the attractive imperfections that make each tree unique. Frayed rugs, weathered wood and broken-in leather give off a distinctly homey feel that will leave you forgetting you’re even in the office at all.

Choose Warm and Neutral Colors

While it’s certainly okay to bring in some cool colors here and there, warm tones and neutral shades of beige and brown are much more commonly used when creating a rustic look. In addition, you’ll want use mostly solid colors with patterns added sparsely in small areas such as area rugs and accent pillows.

Work with the Architecture in the Room

If your office has an exposed brick or stone wall or large wooden beams, flaunt it! These elements help tie in that cabin-like look. If it’s a newer building, fear not. It’s easy to bring rustic charm to a modern space with just a little décor.
